my new teeth

26May09

Got myself new teeth the other day. Well, some new teeth, a couple of top molars on each side and one on the bottom to balance them.
I blame the Scots diet for this. Until I left Scotland when I was 21, I consumed a horrifyingly sweet and bad diet (with the 20/20 vision [...]

When I go down to the seashore, usually at headlands where the photo opportunities are greater, it is a tricky business to negotiate the rocks.

Of course there is usually a bit of sun, the light at the beach is strong in any case, so I wear a pair of sunglasses made to fit over my [...]

I thought it worthwhile to log a typical day’s activities:

7.30 woke up, thought I would have “another half-hour” in bed
8.50 after a titanic struggle, got up
9.45 finished breakfast, then until ….
10.09 doodled on the computer, including fixing up my car’s registration for another year (registration is free for pensioners like me!)
10.12 brushed my teeth
10.30 went [...]

I have had chronic fatigue for 11 years. So has my wife.
I sometimes wonder what we could have achieved had we not contracted the disease.
Can you imagine what it is like?

I’ve been trying to figure out how to get more time to do some drawing, spending too much time fiddling with my photographs.
So the answer was obvious and came to me in a flash the other evening – draw on my photographs! Here is the first one:

I do these ridiculous childish cartoons and the more I do them the more juvenile they become.
I decided the other day to do a series, a day in the life of … some guy. I listed the things I might sketch and think it came to about 15 so that seemed something worthwhile.
This is [...]

A bit of trivia for you – have you ever noticed that in many cartoons people are drawn with only four fingers? Check out the Simpsons for example. Others are the same. I only noticed this a couple of years ago.

I reckon in small cartoon drawing, drawing all the fingers made the [...]

I got a new computer at Christmas time with Vista preloaded. Some problems with Vista but I guess they will get the bugs out in time.
One thing that really upset me was that my Wacom Intuos2 graphics pad would not work, either fully or often not at all.
On a whim, I checked – Googled [...]

Here’s a drawing I did of Tom Waits using my computer, based on a photograph. It was created in Inkscape, the leading svg drawing program, converted to jpg for display in this blog.
I like Tom and his work very much. I did this just for fun. It was quite straightforward to do [...]

the crab

Here is a drawing I did in svg format, exported in png format. I was having problems transferring the blur effect you see on parts of the drawing from its native svg to png but this seems to have worked fine here. Good.
